The Edinburgh PHC Welfare Association (also known as the Edinburgh Private Hire Car Association) was founded on 6 May 2024 in Edinburgh, Scotland. We are a fully non-political, non-communal, non-profit and volunteer-based social welfare organisation established to serve the Private Hire Car (PHC) community across the city.
Our mission is simple: to unite PHC drivers, protect their interests, and build a supportive community rooted in honesty and shared prosperity. The Association operates as a registered voluntary social welfare entity in accordance with UK and Scottish law, ensuring full transparency and accountability to our members.
Everything we do is guided by four core objectives that strengthen and support the PHC community.
Promoting and encouraging creative works in literature, culture and sports among our members.
Organising workshops, quizzes and free information services to keep the PHC community informed.
Providing all possible cooperation and assistance to people of all classes during emergencies or disasters.
Hosting annual picnics, conferences and Iftar parties to foster brotherhood and mutual acquaintance among members.
Joining the Edinburgh PHC Welfare Association is open to all eligible PHC operators who meet the following criteria:
The Association is governed by a democratically elected 33-member Executive Committee, spanning 18 specialised posts — ensuring every aspect of member welfare is represented.
Oversees education-related activities and initiatives for members and their families.
Plan seasonal sports events and historical & cultural celebrations throughout the year.
Identifies and addresses social inconsistencies and the welfare needs of members.
Manages development activities and international day programmes for women and children.
Ensures members follow the constitution and maintains communal harmony.
Leadership serves two-year terms, with a two-consecutive-term limit for the President, General Secretary and Organising Secretary — keeping leadership fresh.
Our annual calendar is filled with activities that build brotherhood and celebrate our shared culture.
A yearly gathering for members and their families to relax, connect and celebrate community.
Regular conferences addressing member concerns, industry updates and welfare planning.
Community Iftar gatherings held during Ramadan to strengthen bonds among members.
